Randall Kipp has been creating modern architectural masterpieces since his days studying the craft at University of Minnesota's School of Architecture. He and his wife, Alison, moved to the Northern Neck from Minnesota in 1993 and established Randall Kipp Architecture, Inc.
When designing waterfront homes, Kipp and his team create their designs with the intention of expanding the home to the outdoors and inviting the outdoors into the home thus creating an extension of the space. Modern architecture is alive and well in rural Virginia thanks to Randall Kipp and, in fact, it proves to be the ideal architectural style for truly embracing the scenic surroundings.

Successful architecture, by its nature will improve the contextual conditions it is given. Where there are views, it works to focus the views. Where there are privacy issues, it works to disguise them. Where there is topography, it works to include it.
Equally, there are space relationships inside buildings. Some spaces are private by their nature and others are more public. It is our job as architects to push and pull the limits of these relationships to provide the best arrangement of the spaces as they relate to each other and sometimes overlap each other.
Architecture cannot be solely about the building envelope; about what it looks like from the exterior. Strong and artful architectural solutions rely on successful design of its interior spaces. Only then can walls be wrapped around the spaces. It is true to say that good architecture, successful architecture, is designed from the inside out.
